In December 2021, EPA finalized revised national greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions standards for passenger cars and light trucks for Model Years 2023- 2026. The emissions standards aim for a fleet average of 52 miles per gallon (mpg) by 2026. The rescission of the 2009 Endangerment Finding removed the EPA's authority to regulate GHG emissions under the Clean Air Act. In parallel, it has repealed all federal GHG standards for light-, medium-, and heavy-duty vehicles, including existing and future requirements.
