In September 2024, the Ministry of Heavy Industry launched the PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Engancement (PM E-DRIVE). The implementation period was set for October 2024 - March 2026, officially launching in 2025. The Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme (EMPS-2024) scheme is being subsumed under the PM E-DRIVE scheme. Eligible categories include electric 2-wheelers, 3-wheelers, ambulances, trucks, buses, and charging infrastructure.
The funding, based on a budget of ₹ 10,900 crore, has been extended by two years now set to end in March 2028.
