The Spanish carbon tax, introduced in 2014, is set at €15 (US$16.12) and targets emissions from fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases), including HFCs, PFCs, and SF6. This tax aims to reduce emissions not covered by the EU ETS and complements existing emissions regulations. Exemptions apply for F-gases used in certain chemical processes, military applications, international aviation, and shipping, as well as for gases with a global warming potential below 150. Temporary exemptions are also in place for SF6 in electrical products until 2024 and in inhalers until 2027.
