"The Climate Change Strategy for Protected Areas gives strategies and actions for mitigating climate change, identifying adaptation priority measures and establishing management guidelines regarding the National Commission for Protected Areas. Under the mitigation component, the main objective focuses on reducing emissions from deforestation and degradation of protected areas and their buffer zones, and increasing carbon sinks. Strategies to achieve these goals include: 1) fire management; 2) REDD+ programmes in and around protected areas; 3) conservation and management of carbon sinks; 4) restoration and establishment of new protected areas with high biodiversity; and, 5) carbon reservoirs"
