The Slovenia Carbon Tax, implemented in 1996, is integrated with domestic excise duties on energy consumption, raising the overall cost of fossil fuels like gasoline and diesel. As of April 1, 2024, the tax is priced at €17.30 (US$18.60) and serves as a complementary measure to the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS). After being abolished in July 2022 due to high energy prices, the tax was reinstated in May 2023 and applies to Scope 1 emissions from road transport and heating, including private jets and boats. Exemptions exist for certain fuel uses, including those in non-metallic mineral production, power generation, and installations emitting less than 25,000 tons of CO2 equivalent annually.
