The German government is extending the motor vehicle tax exemption for purely electric vehicles, so that new EVs registered from 2026 onward can remain exempt from motor vehicle tax for up to ten years, with initial registration eligible until 31 December 2030. The exemption, however, will in all cases end no later than 31 December 2035. The Act amends the 2016 motor vehicle tax exemption legislation.
