The RUPTL 2021–2030 continued the 10-year planning cycle, with updated projections for electricity demand, energy mix, and infrastructure development.

The RUPTL 2021–2030 marked a significant shift toward renewable energy, with a total new capacity target of 40.575 GW. For the first time, over half (51.6%) of the new power generation projects were renewable, amounting to 21 GW of renewable capacity by 2030. The remaining 19.575 GW were allocated to fossil fuels, primarily coal and gas.
