The program mandates housing suppliers that provide a total of 20,000 m2 or more floor area a year in Tokyo to ensure thermal insulation and high energy efficiency performance and install renewable energy equipment (solar power generation equipment) at small and medium-sized new buildings, including houses, with a total floor area of less than 2,000 m2. This policy impacts about 50 companies. The city government will also provide subsidies to encourage the installation of solar panels on existing buildings. This new regulation is expected to be impactful, as half of existing buildings will be replaced with new ones before 2050. This program mandates maintenance/operation of renewable energy equipment.
