Law 10294/2001: "In 2001, the National Program for Conservation and Rational Use of Energy was created aimed at the efficient allocation of energy funds and preservation of the environment. In accordance with this law, the Executive Branch establishes maximum levels of specific energy consumption, or minimum levels of energy efficiency, for energy consuming machines and devices manufacture or sold in the country, based on pertinent technical indicators, which the manufacturers and importers of these machines and devices are obliged to obey. The law also stipulates that the Executive Branch must develop mechanisms that promote energy efficiency in buildings constructed in the country."
