Irelands Climate Change Strategy was launched in November 2000. The strategy provides a framework for climate change abatement across all sectors of the economy. Key initiatives include: a commitment to put in place an appropriate framework for greenhouse gas taxation, prioritising CO2 emissions, from 2002 on; a commitment to participate in international emissions trading (as a supplement to and not a substitute for domestic action); a range of measures to address fuel efficiency in transport and to favour more energy-efficient houses.
