The National Plan for Scientific Research, Development and Technological Innovation 2004-2007 was approved by ministry Council on 7 November 2003. The Plan includes "The National Energy Program" which has as an objective of creation of knowledge and development of the technologies necessary to guarantee a sound, safe and efficient power supply system that facilitates sustainable development and improves quality of life. The Program defines 3priorities: 1) Optimisation of the conventional uses of energy; 2) Boosting renewable energies and emergent technologies to facilitate the technological means that allow increasing the contribution of those power sources in an efficient and competitive form to progress in their integration in the national power system; 3) Thermonuclear fusion.
