In this NDC, the United States is communicating an economy-wide greenhouse gas emissions reduction target of 61-66% by 2035, with a base year of 2005. As part of achieving this target, the United States anticipates methane reductions of at least 35% by 2035, with a base year of 2005. The entire 2035 range is on a straight line or steeper trajectory to net zero emissions by 2050 for all greenhouse gases. On January 20, 2025, the Trump administration signed an Executive Order withdrawing the US from the Paris Agreement (which took formal effect in January 2026), abandoning the Biden era's NDC target. The US is no longer legally obligated to report on or implement on its NDC, and has also ceased climate finance-related commitments.
