Armenia’s NDC establishes 1990 as the reference year and proposes an economy-wide policy to reduce by 40% the GHG emissions by 2030 relative to the reference year. In 1990 Armenia’s emission was 25,855 GgCO2e (excl. LULUCF). The NDC encompasses CO2, CH4, N2O, HFCs and SF6.
Armenia focuses on energy efficiency actions and renewable energy. A programme safeguarding energy security based upon nuclear energy, modern gas-fired power plant and solar energy is being designed and will be implemented between 2021 and 2030. Armenia proposes at least 15% of solar energy in the energy mix by 2030 (Armenia’s NDC, 2021).
As Long Term Strategy, Armenia proposes to to reduce its GHG emission to 2.07 tCO2eq/capita in 2050.
Armenia used the IPCC SAR to estimate its GHG emissions.
