Lebanon sets a relative target in comparison with a BAU scenario. The BAU scenario projects the emission level in 2030 to be 38,950 GgCO2e and the power demand to be 34,742 GWh.
Lebanon proposes an unconditional target to reduce GHG emissions by 20% (7,790 GgCO2e) compared to the BAU scenario in 2030 and conditionally to reduce by 31% (12,075 GgCO2e).
In the NDC, Lebanon clear states as mitigation areas the renewables and energy-efficiency. Unconditionally generating 18% of electricity demand and 11% of heat demand from renewable sources in 2030. Conditionally these numbers would increase up to 30% in electricity and 16.5% in heat, by 2030. Additionally, energy-efficiency plays a role in Lebanon’s target, since the government set 3% of energy demand reduction unconditionally and 10% conditionally compared with the BAU scenario (Lebanon, NDC 2020).
