The primary goal of the Offshore Wind Energy Act amendment is to raise the growth goal for offshore wind energy from 10 gigawatts to 20 gigawatts by 2030. An ambitious long-term expansion goal of 40 gigawatts by 2040 is set down in the modified law. A significant portion of Germany's total share of renewable energy will come from offshore wind energy. In 2030, it is anticipated that 65% of all electricity would come from renewable sources.
In September 2021, the German electricity network agency announced that it has granted permits to construct 958 megawatts (MW) of offshore wind capacity at no subsidy for commissioning in 2026 in the nation's North Sea and Baltic Sea regions.
The three contracts were awarded to RWE Renewables Offshore Development Two, RWE Renewables Offshore Development One, and EDF Offshore Nordsee 3.8, all of which came with zero subsidies, according to a statement from the Bundesnetzagentur.
