Vietnam's Power Development Plan 8 (PDP8) was approved on May 15, 2023, setting the country's energy roadmap for 2021-2030 with a vision to 2050. The plan aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the power sector to 204-254 million tons by 2030 and 27-31 million tons by 2050, through measures such as canceling 13GW of planned coal capacity, promoting renewable energy sources, and mandating the conversion or decommissioning of coal plants older than 20 years.
