Presidential decree declaring rational and efficient energy use a national priority

Decree 140/2007 uncovers the National Program for Rational and Energy Efficiency Use and ensures funding and the necessary institutional arrangements for the implementation of this plan. In the long run, the plan addresses the following sectors and areas of action: Industry; Commercial and Service Sectors; Education; Cogeneration; Energy efficiency standards and labelling; Public lighting; Transportation; Residences; Climate Change–Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).
Furthermore, this decree establishes the renewable energy target of 8% by 2017.
