This program is part of a larger international initiative, the Scaling Up Renewable Energy Program in Low Income Countries (SREP) which is funded by the Strategic Climate Fund (SCF), one of the two Climate Investment Funds (CIF). Ethiopia was selected to become a SREP pilot, with the plan to increase power generation capacity from the present level of 2 GW (2012) to 10 GW by 2015 and to 25 GW by 2030. Focus on five major investment projects of wind, geothermal and hydroelectric energy generation.
