Funding amounts for local transport authorities from the Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas (ZEBRA) programmes were allocated in the: second ZEBRA allocation (ZEBRA 2) for financial years 2023 to 2024 and 2024 to 2025, and first ZEBRA allocation (ZEBRA 1) for financial years 2021 to 2022 and 2022 to 2023.
In 2025, the government announced to invest nearly GBP 38 million to bring 319 new green buses to communities across England by 2027. the UK government has set a target of 4,000 zero-emission buses to be deployed by the end of the current Parliament.
